Top 7 Things to Know – Fall 2025 | AYSO Region 84

Top 7 Things to Know Right Now

  1. It’s Our 50th Anniversary! We’re celebrating all season long, including a special night at the OCSC game in Irvine, where our players will parade around the stadium pitch before kickoff! Limited tickets are reserved for our Region, so don’t miss out on redeeming your player’s free tickets and additional family member’s discounted tickets. Click here to learn more about OCSC night, including how to redeem/purchase tickets.

  2. Region 84 Swag is Coming! Get ready for the new gear, including exclusive 50th Anniversary merchandise. Stay tuned for details soon.

  3. Key Dates:
    • Now: Teams are being formed.
    • Mid-August: Coaches contact families
    • Week of Sept 2: Practices begin (see #4 below)
    • Sat, Sept 6: Opening Weekend of Games
    • Sun, Sept 14: Photo Day (all players)
    • Sat, Sept 27: OCSC R84 50th Anniversary Night!
    • End of October: Regular season ends for 9U+ division
    • Early November: Regular season ends for 8U and below divisions; 9U+ post-season tournaments (for teams with enough referee points)

  4. Practice Schedules: Practice days and times are at the discretion of the volunteer coaches. Please note: team change requests for scheduling conflicts are rarely possible.

  5. Uniforms & Equipment: As part of your registration fees, every player will receive a game uniform (jersey, shorts, socks) and a soccer ball. Players will need soccer cleats (not baseball/softball cleats) and shinguards.

  6. No Jewelry Allowed: For safety reasons, earrings and other jewelry may not be worn during practices or games. If you’re thinking about new piercings, consider waiting until after the season.

  7. Be a Volunteer Hero: AYSO runs entirely on volunteers—from coaches and referees to board members. Refereeing is especially critical: 9U+ teams need referee points to qualify for postseason tournaments. Whether you’re new or experienced, we’d love to have you join us.

There are upcoming NEW REFEREE CLASSES at Norman P. Murray Center in Mission Viejo (option 1: full day on Saturday, August 16; option 2: two half-day classes in the evening on Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21). More information can be found at How To Become a Referee or by contacting Paul Powell, our Regional Referee Administrator, at [email protected].
AYSO is powered entirely by volunteers—and we need your help!

From coaching and refereeing to behind-the-scenes support, it all happens because generous families step up. If you’ve ever considered getting involved, now’s the time. No experience needed—we’ll train and support you every step of the way.

Join us in creating an unforgettable season for our players.
