The Six Philosophies of AYSO
The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is founded on six core philosophies that drive every decision, every rule, and every program. These principles were developed to ensure that every child has a positive, enriching, and safe experience while learning and loving the game of soccer.
1. Everyone Plays®
Our program's first and foremost rule is that every child plays at least one half of every game. This guarantees that all players get to experience the fun and excitement of game day, promoting development and preventing children from being excluded by spending the game on the sidelines.
2. Balanced Teams
Every year, all our players are re-assigned to new teams. Teams are formed to be as balanced as possible, taking into account player skill, size, and gender. This ensures fair competition, exposes players to new teammates and coaches, and maintains a fun, positive learning environment.
3. Open Registration
We do not hold tryouts. We welcome all players regardless of athletic ability, experience, or soccer knowledge. This means all are welcome to come and learn the game in a positive, friendly environment. If your child registers in time, they will be placed on a team.
4. Positive Coaching
Coaches are trained to use positive language, encourage good sportsmanship, foster high self-esteem, and encourage a fun environment. The emphasis is on effort and the learning process, not just the outcome of the game. Our goal is to train players and teach life lessons.
5. Good Sportsmanship
We create a fun and competitive, but friendly, environment built on mutual respect. This applies to players, coaches, referees, and parents. This is one of the most important lessons we teach the kids and enforce throughout the region.
6. Player Development
All AYSO programs must be designed to enhance the development of youth soccer players. Our focus is on age-appropriate training, small-sided games for younger players, and quality instruction to help every player reach their full potential on the field.
