AB 506 Requirements & Live Scan Events
AB 506 Requirements & Live Scan Events
Pursuant to AB 506, effective, January 1, 2022, all administrators, employees, and regular volunteers in California MUST have a one-time background check as approved by the California Department of Justice to exclude individuals with a history of child abuse. This form of background check requires Live Scan fingerprinting. To clarify, a REGULAR VOLUNTEER is a person who has direct contact with children 16 hours a month or 32 hours per year, which applies to most coaches, referees, team parents, and board members who spend 2 or more hours on the field weekly. **Please note that Live Scans are not transferable from another organization**, so you need to perform this process for each applicable organization you volunteer with, but the good news is that this is a one-time requirement for AYSO, and Region 84 will be paying the cost for all Live Scans for each of its registered volunteers.
Throughout the year, Region 84 and other Regions in the area will be hosting Live Scan events for our volunteers. You may just show up to any of our hosted events to get fingerprinted, no appointment necessary. Currently, Region 84 has partnered with Confidential Live Scan to fingerprint our volunteers at hosted events. Confidential Live Scan is owned/operated by Region 84 referee Frank Bernal and is a California Department of Justice (CalDOJ) certified Live Scan service provider. Frank is a retired FBI special agent and the security of the personal information you must provide in order to get fingerprinted is his top priority. If you are unable to attend any of Region 84's Live Scan events, please contact Frank and he will guide you through the process of getting fingerprinted at an alternate location. Frank's contact information also may be found at the below link and you may also contact him with any Live Scan questions.
