Dear AYSO Region 84 Families,

With 2020 drawing to a close, we are looking ahead to the new year and new beginnings. Registration for the Winter 2021 Training Program will be open between December 19th-30that a cost of $25 per player. The season will run from January 9 – February 6, 2021. For the Winter 2021 Program, we are excited to implement scrimmage-like scenarios where players will rotate through different training fields (see some possible examples below).

For our 5U-14U groups, the Winter 2021 Program will consist of:

  • A (5) week program to be coached by our amazing volunteer coaches.
  • Players will be placed on team rosters/cohorts of 10-12.
  • Teams will meet (1) time per week on Saturdays ONLY at the Oso Fields off of La Paz at Newhart Middle School.
  • Training sessions will be approximately 45 - 50 minutes in length.

To enhance our conditioning and training, fields will be lined in a way to ensure the safety of our players while letting them experience scrimmage-like play. In addition, players will work on:

  • The various positions of defense/offense by rotating positions every quarter, half or game.
  • Learning to create space and opportunities for plays.
  • Passing interceptions only.
  • Limiting the number of touches or time allotted with the ball (resulting in a kick inreset from the closest competitive box’stouch line).
  • Scoring on pug goals.
  • In place of goal keepers, an area will be marked off in front of the goal as a “No Player Zone.”
  • 6v6 or 5v5could have one empty square per team if needed.

Protocols to ensure a safe, fair and fun environment for players, coaches, volunteers and families will remain the same.

Drop-off and Pick-up (World Cup Fields):

  • Players are to be dropped-off/picked-up at the top of World Cup fields, near the Potocki Center (same as was used for the fall program). Please ensure that a coach or AYSO Volunteer Representative has your child before departing.
  • Players areencouragedto wear a mask during drop-off and pick-up for the safety of our volunteers.
  • Players will be temperature checked at drop-off by an AYSO Volunteer Representative.

Observers:

  • Parents/Guardians are welcome to stay and observe but must do so from outside the chain link fence or within the specified area permitted while in attendance.
  • Parents/Guardians in attendanceMUSTalways wear a maskand practice proper Social Distancing for the duration of the session.
  • Bathrooms are unavailable at this field. Please have your child use your home facilities before arriving.
  • When the training session is concluded, the players will be walked over to the lower gate of the fields to re-connect with their parent/guardian.

While other organizations may be holding games or scrimmages, please know, they do so at the risk of losing their permits and good standing with the city. We are working in conjunction with the City of Mission Viejo to provide the best soccer experience while following guidelines set forth by the state, county and city. These are unprecedented times that call for us to lead by example. Until such time that the state and local officials loosen the restrictions and allow us to return to play, let us come together and give our players the best we can under the circumstances we face.

From everyone at AYSO Region 84, we want to wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday season. We look forward to seeing everyone on the field in the new year.
